Weekend Warrior- Crowning the Champion: American Edition

Raise your hand if you had Tigers Vs. Rangers in the ALCS at the start of the year… anyone? Bueller? Bueller? anyone?

I didn’t think so. Now that we have that out of the way, Let’s get on with it…

These two were just a little important in beating the Yankees in the ALDS

While it wasn’t picked as the ALCS from the onset of 2011 by pretty much anyone but these two teams have fought and clawed their way and now stand one step away from the World Series.

Looking past the shock in New York from being bounced there are two very good teams left in the American League. The Tigers have Justin Verlander of course, and now that the series will be best of 7 Verlander will get 2 starts and potentially be available for a potential game 7 relief appearance if the series comes to that. Miguel Cabrera in the middle of the Tigers lineup will continue to be a force and could carry possibly carry the team into the next round.

The Rangers went up against the high flying Rays and were able to bounce back from game 1 loss and take the series in 4. The rotation starting with C.J. Wilson and continuing with Derek “The Dutch Oven” Holland and then finishing with Colby Lewis and Matt Harrison will stack up nicely against Verlander, Max Scherzer, Doug Fister, and Rick Porcello. The rotations for both of these teams are impressive. Mike Napoli along with the other big boppers in the Rangers lineup could prove to be the difference with the rotations being so closely matched.

Prediction for the series: Honestly either way this goes it should be a great series. The Rangers lineup along with the solid rotation seems like it should be able to carry them to another world series birth, but it should probably take at least 6 games to put away the Tigers. The Tigers were able to put up a lot of runs against the Yankees but they will find it more difficult against the Rangers much deeper rotation.
